The 2015 Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race was a historic occasion and Heartstone had ‘behind the scenes’ access to tell the story of the first year since it began in 1829 that women were able to participate on an equal basis with the men. There was a sense of even greater excitement amongst the rowers knowing the significance of the day. In the end, Oxford won, but there was a feeling that this was a celebration about something bigger, a barrier had been broken, a momentous day! We covered both the men’s and the women’s races. The Oxford University Women’s Boat Club have continued as Heartstone friends and came to the Royal Observatory Greenwich and House of Commons events. Maddy Badcott, the 2015 President was also present at the opening of the Hammersmith Station Chandra’s London installation which includes photos from the race.
