‘Stories from the Balkans,” was produced at the invitation of KFOR and SFOR, peacekeepers in Kosovo and Bosnia in 2000-2001, and covers the aftermath of the period of ‘ethnic cleansing’. It tells the story of everyday life in a conflict zone where intolerance had been taken to extremes. The photo documentary covered the period when ethnic Albanians were returning and rebuilding their homes and lives. Most Serbs had fled fearing retaliation but some, particularly the elderly, remained including those who had helped families and individuals who had feared for their lives at the height of the atrocities. The continued hatred and feelings of revenge meant many of these people who had stayed were not safe and paid the ultimate price.
